Our names are David and Stacy Sanger. We were born and raised in Kansas and have lived somewhere in Kansas our entire lives. We were both raised in Wichita. While in Wichita we were blessed with the births of Alex and Katelynn, both adopted by us as infants. Wichita had the luxury of bike paths so we often found ourselves cycling on those in our spare time which sadly between work and David's school, was not very often.
When David finished school we decided we wanted to raise our family in rural Kansas and set out to find a place to call home. In that search we found the town of Larned and upon finding a job for David there we took our two oldest children, then ages 2 and 4, and moved to Larned, Kansas. It was the perfect move for us at the time. We quickly went from a family of 4 to family of 6 within a year of moving to Larned. We moved in April and in late May Caleb was born. About 6 months later we met 3 year old Chance who immediately made his way into our hearts and joined our family in late December. Life was crazy, but amazingly good. During those early years cycling took on a different meaning than it does today. It was short trips around or just outside town with David often pulling a trailer and a trail a bike to accommodate everyone or us walking as with the baby in a stroller and the older ones riding their bikes.
As our children approached their teens our vision grew. David decided he wanted to try the Bike Across Kansas (BAK) and signed up in 2013 we began an adventure that much larger than we could have ever imagined. What began as a solo ride across Kansas ended with a group of 7 friends traveling across the state in adventure that sealed their friendships for a lifetime and the birth of Team Larned in the years to come.
In addition to this David took our then 5 year old son, Caleb, on his first biking adventure joining the Cottonwood 200 as a training ride for the BAK. It was just David pulling Caleb on a trail a bike for that weekend which led to adventures that we still talk about and remanence about.
Following our first trip across the state David and I, along with a group of friends, organized and hosted numerous other cyclist adventurers from the Larned area each summer on the BAK and that second year named ourselves Team Larned. A trip with us was a little different than the normal BAK experience as we stayed in churches rather than camping or sleeping in the high school gyms like many of the other participants. This allowed us a little more privacy, time for fellowship and it allowed us to feel secure enough to bring our children on this adventure as well. We usually had two or more children or teens join us each year. After that first year our numbers were as few as 12 and as many as more than 20. The rewards of leading these groups far outweighed the struggles and we are grateful for every year we were able to do it.
After six years of traveling across the state we decided it was time to change our vision. We had found ourselves in search of a different venue and an opportunity to redefine our goals and purpose. At about the same time we also decided to make Hutchinson, Kansas our home so the timing felt right to pass the Team Larned concept on to others and to begin exploring other cycling options.
Since then we have taken groups on the Katy Trail and Across Kansas from North to South. We have also, as a couple, begun exploring other cycling options and recording our trips so others can have a place to go when making cycling plans for either on the road or trail riding.
Our hope is to continue taking small groups on cycling tours around the United States, expanding our area as our children continue to grow and leave the nest, but also to independently explore, evaluate and review trails, accommodations, restaurants, and biking equipment and pass this information onto you our reader in an effort to make your planning and trip preparation a little less tedious and the trip itself more enjoyable. Our reviews will include family friendly rides, group rides and individual or couple adventures.
Welcome to our page and please let us know what we are lacking, how we can be of some help, or suggestions of places where we should go explore on our next adventure!!1
